Intermediate Motivational Interviewing
Overview
This is an Online Training Series composed of 4 meetings at the following dates and times:
October 5, 2026 - October 8, 2026 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm Pacific Time
This online training series is focused on helping you to enhance your communication skills in this active learning class. This is for learners who have taken an introductory Motivational Interviewing course and want to expand on concepts such as strategically responding, focus, and incorporating MICA intentions.
Working from an Evidence-Based Practice perspective, the training will be tailored to the participants to build up practical skills that can be applied immediately. We will focus on strategy and the processes of Motivational Interviewing which will help you better engage your clients, and create an environment for long term sustained behavior change. There will be video examples, audience participation, and skill practice, creating a very interactive training experience.
You will learn how to/Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate between the 4 types of talk
- Identify how to implement the focus process
- Strategically responding to Change talk
- Discover the MICA intentions and how they support the change process

Requirements to receive Continuing Education Certificate link
This training is designed for social workers and behavioral health professionals. IFIOC #1485 is approved as a provider for work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. IFIOC maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers participating in this training will receive 10 continuing education clock hours. Professionals should contact their individual regulatory board to review current continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. ASWB Approval Period: 05/30/2024 to 05/30/2027.
