Installing a Window and a Door

Whether you're salvaging a beautiful old door from the Reuse Center or installing a new window in a framed wall, this hands-on class gives you the skills to do it right. You’ll learn how to trim and hang a door in a finished opening—even one that’s out of square—and how to properly install a window into a rough opening with a focus on air sealing and waterproofing techniques.

This class is perfect for DIYers who want to build practical knowledge in window and door replacement and installation, especially when working with reused or non-standard materials.

Learning Goals:

· Select and prepare a salvaged or new door for installation

· Trim and hang a door in an existing jamb

· Shim and align a door for proper swing and closure

· Install a window in a rough opening with an airtight, watertight seal

· Apply flashing, foam, and caulk to prevent air/water infiltration

· Build confidence to tackle similar DIY projects at home
