What happens when we bring our whole selves to the circle — our longings, our questions, our mess, our joy?

In honor of Mental Health Month, Inside Out is an interactive extravaganza that offers an invitation to sing what’s usually left unsung — the stories, feelings, and voices that often live in the dark.

We’ll turn music sideways, backwards, upside down — cracking it open to find what’s real. What happens when we let what’s inside be heard, seen, and sung?

Guided by collaborative improvisation and communal harmony, we’ll co-create an evening of sound that moves from the shadow into the light — together.

OUR FEATURED ARTISTS:

BEN FREEMAN (he/him) is a Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, facilitator, and ritual artist originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. This summer he is releasing a tenth anniversary edition of his 2015 EP Providence, completely reimagined and re-recorded with producers Cale Hawkins and Jackson Hoffman. He's currently at work on his second full-length album, coming out in 2026, following up on his last set of originals, 2023's EP Baby Mine. Somewhere between his primary inspirations of Joni MItchell and Stevie Wonder, Ben's music is sensuous and big-hearted, full of groove and soul. He plays regularly around the city and is also an alum of Matt Goldstein's Flow Labs. Find him on IG and TikTok @bshatteredbfree

KATIE MARTUCCI is a performer, bandleader, singer and composer who believes in the necessity of creative process for the self and the power of music to build and sustain community. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, she has taught voice and songwriting at SUNY New Paltz, and maintains active teaching and performing practices around her home in Brooklyn and beyond. Katie has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Her latest release ‘Note to Self’ on La Reserve Records is a collection of songs about the “unspoken third thing in the room” stories surrounding friendship, family history, imposter syndrome, her own personal journey with epilepsy and more. Drawing inspiration from the writing and production of artists like Madison Cunningham and Emily King, Martucci's songs are lush and cinematic. "No matter what Katie Martucci chooses to sing, it absolutely captivates us. Her voice is incredible, warm, and personal." - Ear to the Ground Music. Oh, and on Halloween and New Year’s Eve, you can find her in Brooklyn leading an ABBA cover band.

SHIREEN “RIYO” AMINI (they/them) is a queer, trans masculine, Puerto Rican-Iranian American, earth-loving song creator, rhythm maker, and community facilitator based in Portland, Oregon. As a human, they carry a deep commitment to their own liberation path and vision of a more just world. As an artist, they believe strongly in music’s power to propel cultural revolution. Shireen blends pop, rock, hip hop, latin, and roots sensibilities with socially-conscious themes as a singer-songwriter and creates modern medicine music for community singing. In song circles, they hold transformational space, leading joyful, groove-based songs, evoking tenderness, and often engaging participants in the rhythm and ceremony of it all. Stay tuned for Shireen’s first community song album in-the-works, tentatively titled “Gather Your Resilience: Medicine Songs for Liberation.”

WHO WE ARE:

Gaia Music Collective is an NYC-based creative community seeking to foster a more connected world through collective music-making. Founded in June of 2021 by Matt Goldstein in a living room in Brooklyn, this project was born out of a desire to create accessible, inclusive, playful spaces for people to explore connection, expression, healing, and release through collaborative song - spaces where folks feel empowered to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our full, beautiful, authentic selves.

We believe that communal music-making is a fundamental human practice, and this project seeks to build spaces for folks to nurture their relationship to music, whether they're shower singers, professional musicians, or anything in between.

All are welcome in this community: all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages, and musical experiences. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self and others at the door.

In short - we're here to sing, to play, to connect, to grow, and to have a good time!

With love,

The Gaia Team
