Overview

Information session on neurodiversity including the needs-led Neurodiversity Profiling Tool.

To note: the neurodiversity profiling tool is Cornwall and Isles of Scilly needs-led and early help first step in identifying neurodiversity within children and young people aged 0-19 and supports accompanying information, advice and strategy support.

These information sessions can support parents carers to understand more about neurodiversity and how to access early help and broader support for children and young people (CYP) who may present with neurodivergence. CYP who may be presenting with neuro-diversity needs can access the profilingtool which can help identify what further support they may need.

What is the Neurodiversity Profiling Tool?

The profiling tool is a visual document that explores nine developmental strands for a children and young people aged 0-19. This includes speech and language, energy levels, attention skills, emotion regulation, sensory levels, motor skills, cognitive abilities, flexibility, and social preferences.

Through a guided conversation, it provides a holistic view of a child or young person’s needs and suggests types of strategies that can be put in place to help manage those needs in different areas of a life, such as at home, at their early years setting, school or college, and in the community. It is important to have explored this before considering whether a diagnostic assessment (for any neurodevelopmental condition, such as Autism or ADHD) is appropriate.

The process of completing the profile is done with the family, and not for, or to the family.

How do I use the tool for my child or young person?

The Neurodiversity Profiling meeting will be done jointly with a trained professional alongside you and your child/ young person if appropriate. There are more than 3000 professionals who have already received training in completing the ND profiling tool, with more being trained each month. Usually these are people who work with children or young people, so you are encouraged to speak to your health visitor, nursery, health practitioner, school or college to request a profile in the first instance.

If you would like to find out more about the new pathway and how it will work you can access one of our information sessions.

We reserve the right to cancel ineligible bookings.
