Kelli Ngariki owns Healthcare Compliance Associates (HCA), a consulting business focusing on helping healthcare practices become and stay compliant. She creates and conducts engaging continuing education courses for dental healthcare providers and their teams. Infection Control Course Content Summary
This course reviews infection prevention for oral healthcare settings according to the most current CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health Care Settings and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. Scenarios will be discussed to assist dental professionals in identifying risks and applying standard precautions to break the infection cycle. Specific prevention controls will include personal protective equipment, dental instrument cleaning and sterilization, dental unit waterline cleaning and testing, and developing and evaluating an effective infection control program.
Three expected outcomes of the attendee learning experience :
(i.e., changes in attitude, new approach, correction of outdated attitude, providing new knowledge, intro to mastery of skills, or altering habits)
A fresh perspective on the consequences of the infection control cycle.
Appreciation of the importance each dental healthcare professional plays in breaking the infection cycle.
Correction of legacy errors using standard operating procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.

Speaker: Mary Soots
Mary Soots is a social researcher, educator, and policy analyst who helps to build bridges of understanding across cultures. Her work for various governments, as well as non-profit and commercial endeavors has helped to set policy and create equity in various areas. Her work with the Hispanic community in Oregon over 40 years has provided a long-term view of changes in that demographic in our community. She is a Certified Health Care Interpreter and serves as Director of Educational Programs for the Oregon Health Care Interpreters Association. Mary holds a Master’s Degree in Anthropology from Portland State University. She also holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Studies and Anthropology, as well as Minor Degrees in Spanish and in Geography.
