About this event
Welcome to the 2025 Indigenous Agroforestry Network Pre-Gathering Workshops!
Join us for a day to connect with the land, each other, crafts, and medicines. Transportation will be provided from the Redd to Wapato Island Farm, where we will be guided by Jenny Rose Marie Serna (Navajo, Yaqui, and Irish) to introduce ourselves to each other and the land in a good way, tour Wapato Island Farm, and share a meal together. Lunch and snacks will be provided. In the afternoon, participants have the opportunity to choose from one of two workshops focused on working with local plants and medicines in the Northwest.
For Workshop 1, Jenny and Monique Roberson-Lopez (Chiricahua Apache, Aztec, Basque, And Latina) will co-lead an agua florida workshop for participants. Agua florida is an infusion of flowers, herbs, spices, or other plants and is used for cleansing, protection, and healing rituals. Jenny and Monique will guide participants into deeper connection with and knowledge of each ingredient in agua florida. Participants will hand select the ingredients that they feel the deepest connection with to make their own personal agua florida. Non-alcohol infusion options are available.
SOLD OUT- For Workshop 2, Jessica Rojas (Mixed Race, Chicana), Community Education & Stewardship Lead at Metro Parks and Nature, and Marie Knight (Warm Springs), a traditional weaver from the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, will guide participants through an Invasive Plant Medicine in Land Management workshop. This workshop is intended to deepen participants’ connection to, knowledge of, and relationship with plants that are guests on this land. Participants will be introduced to weaving with English ivy, and Jessica will invite them to reflect on land tending and stewardship from an Indigenous and community-based perspective.
