Inclusive Technology: Join the conversation

On 27 February, Kiteka will be hosting a unique networking event for entrepreneurs, investors, advocates and practitioners interested in harnessing technology for global change.

See the fantastic new smart-doc ‘Connected Women’ - a short film telling the story of six Kiteka women in Kampala, Uganda. Connect with others who are passionate about using technology for justice. Enjoy the smooth sounds of Libby Key and Victoria Gold, experiance the brilliance of The Truth Poet all accompanied by bespoke cocktails, showcasing Sipsmith Gin.

If you care about social impact and seeing advances in technology used for the many, not just the few, then this is an event for you.

The lowdown:

FILM:Connected Women” is a short film telling the story of six Kiteka women based in Kampala, Uganda. Filmed by them on their smartphones, they share footage of their lives, their businesses and their families. Women are 23% less likely than men to own a smartphone. Currently there are 307 million women without one. Yet when they have access to this technology it can transform their lives and their futures.

LIVE MUSIC: Libby Key is a soul-diva who mixes jazz, gospel and soul vibes into her music. A trained violinist, Libby has sung with multiple classical and gospel choirs including the Trinity Boydell Singers, Dublin, LPCC church choir Los Angeles, BIG choir and the London Community Gospel Choir. With a voice that sounds like ‘melted honey on toast’, Libby’s songs are uplifting, encouraging and enriching. She will be performing live with her band.

POETRY: The Truth Poet, early on in her life she realised that the only way she could express herself was through art, and she's been writing ever since. She has headlined Lambeth & Southwark Minds annual conference 2016, opened for 2017's digital mental health conference and joined forces with researcher William Frey from Columbia University (NYC) to deliver a workshop called Beyond the bullets and was a guest speaker at a women's empowerment event called Lemonade N Vodka. She will be performing a special piece she has created specifically for women worldwide and Kiteka's work.

SIPSMITH COCKTAILS: The award winning Sipsmith are sponsoring the event with their classic London Dry Gin. Their flagship product was born out of a desire to see gin production return to the city where it earned its name. With a nod to traditional hand crafted production, Sipsmith gin combines traditional copper pot distillation with a recipe that wouldn't look unfamiliar to an eighteenth century Master Distiller.

We will be mixing their gin into three unique cocktails on the night.

KITEKA: Kiteka enables young women in Uganda, and beyond, to fight gender inequality and poverty with technology. By facilitating access to smartphone technology, digital training and online work we help women to pursue social and economic opportunities that produce sustainable change.
