Join us at the Macdermott Suite in the McDermott Library at The University of Texas at Dallas for an exciting event delving into the Scopes Trial in History and Folklore. Edward John Larson is a distinguished American historian and legal scholar. He currently serves as a University Professor of History and Law at Pepperdine University, holding the Hugh & Hazel Darling Chair in Law. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in History for his 1997 book Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America's Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion.

The 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial in Dayton, Tennessee, saw teacher John T. Scopes prosecuted for teaching evolution in public school, violating state law. The case became a symbol of the clash between science and religion, sparking debate on academic freedom, education, and the role of science in society. One hundred years later, it remains relevant as tensions endure over science, religious beliefs, and educational policy.
