Overview

Open Submissions for a play festival! Looking for Emerging BIPOC playwrights to submit work. Submit! https://tinyurl.com/IUREADING

The In Utero Staged Reading series is looking for emerging BIPOC playwrights from the Detroit, MI and surrounding Metro areas to submit early one-act script drafts for a staged reading occurring in Spring 2026. This is an opportunity for selected playwrights to hear their works read aloud, performed by actors and heard by audiences in an intimate theatrical setting.

Why: To lift up emerging playwrights. To test work, hear honest responses and spark the next best thing. This is a space for Playwrights to create a welcoming ground to support each other- collaborate, be generous and brave.

Who: At this time, New and Emerging Playwrights. (There will be a call for actors and audiences soon!).

Eligibility Guidelines:

  • The playwright must identify as a member of the Global Majority,
  • One-act plays submitted must range from 20 to 45 minutes (18-45 pages).
  • Plays must not include more than four characters.
  • Playwrights are limited to a single submission for the Reading Series.
