Please join us for Coffee and Conversation on 15 January 2025 with Winston Branch OBE in dialogue with distinguished scholar Professor Eddie Chambers.In January 2025 Professor Eddie Chambers was announced as the Goldabelle McComb Finn Distinguished Professor in Art History, Theory and Criticism at the Faculty at the School of the Art Institute Chicago.Chamber's distinguished academic career has encompassed tenured Professorial positions at the Department of Art and Art History, at the University of Texas at Austin where he taught visual arts of the African Diaspora.
Since the early 1980s, Chambers has curated exhibitions globally, authored two monographs on Black British Art, and edited The Routledge Companion to African American Art History and contributed an essay to The Routledge Companion to Decolonizing Art History. His essays have appeared in prominent journals such as Third Text, Visual Culture in Britain, and International Review of African American Art.
Perhaps, “ambitious and experimental” and “energetic and exploratory” are two sets of almost concrete adjectives that have been employed as exemplifying “the artist’s 25-year-long inquiry into the potentiality of light, colour, space, and depth.”
