This is a facilitated percussion circle, like a drum circle but with more hand percussion than drums. There is a wide variety of percussion to play with, from frame drums to shakers to scrapers and bells. You are free to bring your own percussion as well.
Through the structure of improv games, we will create rhythmic grooves and patterns, beginning with just a single note from striking two objects together.
We start simple and work from there up to more complex patterns. This is perfect for beginners who will gain confidence from simple patterns, as well as more advanced percussionists who will find a steady base from which to play on top of.
Whatever mood you might be in, drumming (and tapping) will help you to re-center, ground, and come back into the present moment. By holding down a pattern for a few minutes (or longer) we can enter into a collective state of presence and joy.
Come for the whole hour, or come for any portion that fits for you.
Bring a stick, bring a friend, bring a willingness to make silly noises.
I am posting this as "free" on this platform, but I do ask for some (pay-what-you-can) compensation at the door, as I have to rent this studio space in advance each month.
Compensation paid at this event goes directly to me, Jillian, for hosting the circles, renting the space, and upkeep of the percussion instruments available for everyone to use. I am also open to bartering options, trade of services, and instrument donations.
This is the Spring schedule. Summer schedule will be posted in May.
