Overview

Learn the core concepts of longform comedic improv. Tuesdays.

Learn the core concepts of longform comedic improv. Students will cover scene-work mechanics like editing, tag-outs and heightening in the context of game of the scene. Over this seven-week period, we'll build the groundwork for comedic moves that will elevate your scenes. Classes every Tuesday January 6th - February 17th from 7:00-9:30pm.

The course will culminate in a student show on the afternoon of Saturday, February 21st (exact time to be determined).

PREREQUISITES: Students are required to have taken Improv 101: Intro to Improv. If you have any questions about this policy, you may contact us here.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Students are required to attend 2 improv shows at Mettlesome during the course (students get into shows for free)
  • Students are allowed a maximum of 2 absences per course.

INSTRUCTOR: Jack Reitz is an actor, writer, and improvisor based in Durham, NC. He has been studying improv since 2004, first with the DSI Comedy theater in Chapel Hill, NC, and then with the UCB Theater and The Magnet Theater in NYC. Jack has appeared on stage in Durham, Chicago, and NYC and in various film work including appearances on ABC and MTV. For seven years he toured nationally (and internationally) as part of Catharsis Productions' show "Sex Signals," which uses scripted and improvisational comedy to address issues of sexual assault in the military and on college campuses. He was recently the host of Our State Magazine's Secrets of the Triad Series. Jack Reitz is a founding stakeholder of Mettlesome and has directed multiple improv and sketch shows.


He directs the Harold Team "Thanks for the Invite" and can be seen performing with Hush Hush. Jack has studied with Will Hines, T. J. Jagadowski, Shannon O’Neill, Brandon Scott Jones, Rick Andrews, Jeris Donovan, and Paula Pazderka.
