The manual can be ordered directly through Guilford Press or Amazon.***

Course Overview
DBT STEPS-E is a comprehensive social-emotional learning program for K-5 students, teaching emotion regulation, coping, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. It integrates into general education classrooms and supports special education and multi-tiered systems. The manual offers two curricula (K-2 and 3-5) with teaching scripts, examples, handouts, and worksheets, aligning with the CASEL framework and promoting a "whole child" approach.

DBT STEPS-E Implementation Training Learning Objectives
1. Understand the development of and rationale for the DBT STEPS-E curricula in elementary schools.
2. Understand how the DBT STEPS-E curricula delivered in a school setting differ from comprehensive DBT clinical treatment.
3. Understand how the DBT STEPS-E curricula can be implemented within a Multi-Tier Systems of Support model.
4. Understand the sequence of the curricula and how it can be adapted to fit their setting.
5. Understand how to use the DBT STEPS-E manual to prepare and deliver SEL lessons to classroom and small group settings.
6. Understand how to use a DBT STEPS-E (grades 3-5) diary card as a progress monitoring tool with students in the classroom setting.
7. Understand the concept of “both side thinking” (dialectics and dialectical thinking).
8. Be able to lead students through a mindfulness exercise and process the relevance of the exercise with students.
9. Understand and practice the teaching of the Wise mind goes to SEA, or Wise mind takes a SEAT lesson.
10. Understand and practice teaching one skill from the interpersonal effectiveness module.
11. Be able to identify and address the common barriers to effective implementation.
12. Be able to use the DBT STEPS-E manual to prepare and teach the lessons to the students using a variety of teaching strategies.

Continuing Education
- Participants attending the entire training may receive a certificate for 16.5 Instruction Hours.
- DBT in Schools, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7064. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. DBT in Schools, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Grievance Procedure
DBT in Schools, LLC is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the NASW, NBCC and NASP codes of ethics. DBT in Schools, LLC will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content, and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Training Coordinator in consultation with the members of the Leadership Team.
While DBT in Schools, LLC ( DBTIS) goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues that come to the attention of the staff that require intervention and/or action on the part of the staff or a member of the Leadership Team of DBTIS. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
- Complaints in the course of an educational activity: Should a participant in any DBTIS event (including online training) be unsatisfied, the participant should immediately contact the onsite or assigned DBTIS employee to register a complaint, which the employee will attempt to resolve. If required, the DBTIS employee will refer the matter to their manager. If the matter is still not resolved, the DBTIS employee will immediately contact a member of the DBTIS Executive Leadership Team with a referral and a written description of the complaint. The Executive Leadership Team Member will respond either in writing or by telephone to the participant within five business days.
2. Complaints via phone or email: The complaint is first routed through our customer service department, who assesses the complaint and either addresses it immediately or sends it to the appropriate trainer to address. If the matter cannot be adequately resolved, the DBTIS employee will immediately contact a member of the DBTIS Leadership Team with a referral and a written description of the complaint. The Leadership Team Member will respond either in writing or by telephone to the participant within five business days.
3. Complaints regarding the CE Program: If the grievance concerns the DBT in Schools, LLC CE program, in a specific regard, the Training Coordinator will attempt to arbitrate. Complaints can be sent via e-mail to info@dbtinschools.com.
