IMMERSIVE PERFORMANCE SKILLS
with Marissa Nielsen Pincus
Saturday March 25, 10-1 & 2-5
at Basic Flowers
This day long intensive will share methods and tools Marissa has explored in the creation and performance of immersive and site-specific work with. The morning session will focus on site exploration. The afternoon will delve into our relationship to the audience.
Part one: Marissa will share her tool box for site exploration and creating movement in site-specific and immersive environments, investigating how we get to know a space with our bodies and explore what’s possible when moving in unconventional spaces, on furniture and engaging with architecture. We’ll delve into the questions that arise: How do we take safe risks? How do we make movement that is organic to the structure or space we are working in? How do we discover, hone, and distill our choices?
Part two: The afternoon will focus on our relationship to the audience, cultivating trust and listening skills. We’ll experiment with what it means to be in the present moment as a performer in an immersive setting using sensory awareness, focus, and task based games and directives to deepen our presence and empower our audience to feel invited and engaged.
***A dance or theater background is not necessary, but a willingness to move and explore is a pre-requisite. Please wear clothing and shoes that you can move in.
