Join photographer and professional photobook maker Eddie Ephraums for an inspiring day of learning and discussion about handmade, home-printed photobooks.
This workshop focuses on small, easily produced books containing 5–20 images – ideal for photographers of all experience levels.
The aim of the day is to inform you of the exciting possibilities of photobook making. You’ll leave with a solid understanding of the creative, practical, and technical aspects involved.
We’ll begin by looking at a variety of photobooks – from simple, single-sheet foldout books, to more advanced forms and formats. Some of these examples have appeared in my monthly photobook-making features for B+W Photography magazine, offering insight into the ideas and techniques behind them.
You’ll also see how some designs can be adapted for online printing and publishing – such as A5 books that can be produced as affordable zines, perfect for sharing or selling in small editions.
In the workshop, I’ll talk you through the stages of creating a printed book:
- Developing your idea and concept
- Choosing the right format for your project
- Selecting and processing images
- Designing your layout
- Printing and simple binding methods (easily applied glue and basic sewing techniques)
We’ll go through the software, equipment, and materials you might need to produce the simplest to more ambitious project. You’ll also have the opportunity to handle tools, papers, and cover materials to see what best suits your approach.
To make the most of your day, you’re invited to bring a project you’re currently developing, or an idea you’d like to start, or a finished book you’d like to share for feedback and discussion. There's a maximum of just six people in the group.
This workshop is open to all – whether you’re new to photobook making or have experience. There’s always something new to discover on your photobook journey and other photobook makers to meet and share ideas with.
I look forward to sharing an inspiring and enjoyable day together.
