IBC Code Strategies for Light-Frame and Mass Timber Construction
Overview
Regional Online Seminar (OR, ID-South, HI)
Opportunities for light-frame wood and mass timber construction have never been greater, especially now that the International Building Code (IBC) allows up to 18 stories with mass timber. Choosing the right construction type, however, is critical—and increasingly complex.
This presentation walks through logical, code-compliant steps for key considerations, including allowable building size, separation requirements, detailing, and special provisions. With a focus on Construction Types III, IV, and V, examples, calculations, and details will illustrate how to navigate code requirements for single-occupancy and mixed-use buildings while maximizing building size and meeting fire and life-safety requirements.
