About the Artists
This exhibition brings together two unique artistic perspectives:
- Josh Conn: For Josh Conn, drawing is a vital form of expression. Living with social anxiety, he uses his art as a way to communicate and to explore solitude. His characters, created with ink, alcohol markers, and mixed media (including flowers from his garden), have a raw, cartoonish quality. They reflect personal feelings in a style that is both thoughtful and playful. Josh also works with animation and screen printing, giving life to characters that convey a lot without words.
- Simulated Macabre (Craig Keppler): Craig Keppler's work, under the name Simulated Macabre, delves into themes of anxiety, depression, and resilience. Using acrylic ink on watercolor paper, he creates expressive, unplanned compositions that explore internal emotional states. Drawing inspiration from the fantasy of Hidetaka Miyazaki, the storytelling of Tolkien, and the serenity of ukiyo-e, Craig constructs dreamlike scenes where different emotions can coexist. His work, while sometimes somber, highlights strength and purpose.
