HYP Book Club: “The Overstory” Roots and Trunk Sections

By Harrisburg Young Professionals

Overview

Turn the page with HYP Book Club—smart reads, fresh perspectives, and engaging conversation.

Due to this book’s length, we will be splitting it between November and December. For November, read the first two sections titled Roots and Trunk.

To finish out the year, the HYP Book Club will be reading Richard Powers’ Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, ‘The Overstory’. The story follows nine unrelated characters whose unique life experiences with trees bring them together to address the destruction of old-growth forests. Through interwoven narratives spanning multiple generations, the novel explores themes of environmental activism, the interconnectedness of living things, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world.
