Create a series of scrappy flowers to attach to your own wine bottle hummingbird feeder!
Select your own pieces of glass from scrap bins and use hand tools and optional grinders to create your own stained glass flowers. We will use primarily hand cutting tools to nip and shape the glass into pieces for our flowers, use of grinding machines is optional. This is a great project for those who love to think abstractly and create with found shapes and objects.
Each guest will likely work at their own pace, but expect to spend upwards of 4-5 hours to complete the project from start to finish. If you ever need more time to complete a project you've started in a class, Open Studio hours are available at no further charge.
Step 1: Designing, Cutting, and Grinding your glass flower pieces ~2 hours
Step 2: Foiling all glass pieces to prepare for soldering ~1 hour
Step 3: Soldering glass flowers together and attaching to copper coil ~2 hours
This is considered an advanced soldering class. Beginners up for a challenge are welcome.
We will be using glass which presents the possibility of cuts, hazardous chemicals, and soldering irons that reach 700 degrees. Nitrile gloves and gardening gloves are provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
