Humanistic Management in Practice webinar - featuring Carol Turner
Overview
Friday November 14 from 1pm - 2pm Eastern (10am-11am PT)
Dear colleagues and friends of IHMA,
Join us for an insightful Humanistic Management in Practice webinar with artist Carol Turner on her large scale exibit titled Silence of Women.
Bios:
Carol Turner is a lifelong artist, best known for her large-scale oil paintings that explore color and light. This talk will focus on a large scale exibit titled Silence of Women.
The exhibit visually expresses anger and grief Carol felt at the oppression of women, from the reports of the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan, and the resulting work that led Turner to the recognition of the universal nature of this problem. Turner believes that thoughtful, intelligent women and men must work together as equals. Perhaps wars might be fewer if women had an equal voice in politics and policy. Women belong at the table—not only to address conflict, but to help shape the full range of issues facing humanity today.
Silence of Women exhibit has 98 ceramic faces, each representing a woman of a different age and nationality, created to resemble ancient relics—artifacts unearthed from an archaeological dig—symbolizing generations of women whose voices have been silenced. Identification tags accompany the sculptures to note their origins. Interspersed among them are placards displaying data that underscore the urgent need for action. The work also includes a Wall of Letters, with influential women from around the world, answering the two questions Carol asked them:
- How did you find your voice?
- What words of wisdom would you share with younger generations?
With this work Carol conveys the message that we must raise girls to speak with confidence and conviction—and raise boys who respect and value strong girls.
