About this event
In this online, self-paced course, participants will explore the impact of human trafficking in Indigenous communities and the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people. Course materials include articles and videos that highlight first-hand narratives of human trafficking survivors. At your pace, you will read two articles, watch one video, and familiarize yourself with a toolkit created by Native youth to combat human trafficking within their communities. Once complete, a post-test quiz is required.

As a result of this course, participants will be prepared to:
1. Describe the impact of human trafficking in Indigenous communities.
2. Identify reasons why trafficking is prevalent in Indigenous communities.
3. Identify the signs of human trafficking.
Instructor:
Gina Tremonti Gembel, Director of Continuing Education at the Michigan State University School of Social Work, holds a Master in Social Work with a concentration in organizational and community practice. She has worked in public health and other social service fields to assist groups in understanding health equity, social justice, and the social determinants of health so they can work together to reduce the likelihood that people are disadvantaged because of their race, class, or gender. Her skills include community outreach and engagement, facilitation, and the use of tools for collaboration.
