Human Trafficking: Identifying, Understanding, and Responding

This training will provide an in-depth overview of human trafficking and its intersection with civil legal services, with a focus on applying a trauma-informed approach when working with survivors. Participants will gain a better understanding of how trauma impacts memory, communication, and client engagement, and how these dynamics can affect legal advocacy.

The session will include:

• An overview of human trafficking (sex and labor trafficking) and common indicators
  
• How trauma can affect behavior, disclosure, and client interactions
  
• Practical strategies for building trust and rapport using trauma-informed practices
  
• Ethical considerations and professional boundaries when representing survivors
  
• Resources and referral pathways for survivors

By the end of the training, participants will be better equipped to recognize potential trafficking situations, respond to survivors in a supportive and empowering manner, and advocate effectively while minimizing re-traumatization.
