Online Panel Discussion - 30th September, 2025 from 17:00 (BST)
We invite everyone to join us in a discussion with the editors and authors in this exciting new issue of Feminist Dissent, which is concerned with ‘Human Rights in an Age of Populist Authoritarianism’. In this issue Feminist Dissent intervenes in the debate on human rights to make a feminist case for universal human rights. We argue that the concept of universal human rights, for all its problems, represents something that we must both defend and take forward in the current period. In a political moment being defined by the rise of authoritarian Far Right movements and figures, we argue that this is an urgent task for a Feminist Anti-Racist Left.
Speakers
Gita Sahgal, writer and journalist and human rights activist.
Judith Götz, political scientist, gender researcher, and expert on right-wing extremism.
Chetan Bhatt, Anthony Giddens Professor of Social Theory, Department of Sociology, London School of Economics.
The discussion will be chaired byYasmin Rehman, a feminist, activist and researcher working on violence against women and girls, race, faith, gender and human rights.
