Andrew Thomas Huang is a visual artist, writer and director who crafts hybrid fantasy worlds with spiritual deities, mythical beasts, and posthuman bodies. Huang fuses his technical prowess in visual effects, puppetry, and animation with a fascination of folklore, queerness, and the non-Western imaginary. With his background in fine art, film direction, and music collaboration, Huang’s career has found him platforms online and in museums around the world.
In his inaugural visit to Houston, HTX MADE PRESENTS is proud to invite Huang to engage with the Greater Houston community and create meaningful artistic exchange with local audiences, storytellers, and artists across all mediums.
On Friday, June 27, Huang will screen an hour-long selection from his body of work, including FKA twigs’ CELLOPHANE, Björk’s MUTUAL CORE, and his short film KISS OF THE RABBIT GOD. Followed by a Q&A moderated by founder of the Big Queer Picture Show Michael Robinson, and Houston Asian American Archive intern Chi Pham.
This free event is generously sponsored by the CHAO CENTER FOR ASIAN STUDIES as part of their Liu Distinguished Visitor Series and is co-presented by the MOODY CENTER FOR THE ARTS at RICE and BIG QUEER PICTURE SHOW.
