FULL CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Even today, with so many advances in accessibility and technology, self-publishing gets a bad rap; and the sad truth is, in far too many cases, self-published books deserve it. Cover art is cringeworthy; major grammar mistakes and typos slip through; and the formatting inside and outside the book is—all wrong.

These books, many of which are the products of years of work on the part of the authors, are never going to sell. Readers don’t want them. Bookstores don’t want them. And as for libraries... Forget it.

Sadder still, these mistakes are completely avoidable. However, even for the best intentioned, it’s difficult to find a comprehensive how-to for the process, and you’re left trying to cobble pieces of information together from blogs and friends and well-meaning, but often incorrect, people on the internet.

There’s good news though, and that’s why you’re here. Because of all the advances in access and technology, it’s more possible than ever, to produce a self-published book that is nearly indistinguishable from major publishers. And what’s even better, as an author, you can make your book instantly available to all major online book retailers across the globe, as well as every single bookstore and library within the US and many outside of the states. (And no, I’m not talking about Amazon).

If you’re someone who cares about putting a quality, self-published book into the world, one that is indistinguishable from a book produced by major publishers, this introductory course is for you.

In this sixty-minute class, you’ll get a complete overview of the self-publishing process, from finishing your book, to booking bookstore-signings post-publication. You’ll also get a real-world estimate of self-publishing costs, what systems you’ll need to use in order to self-publish like a big publisher, and much, much more.

Take the first step in investing in your book. Sign up for this Self-Publishing 101 course today, and start the path that will lead to holding your beautiful, professionally published novel in your hands.

Class will be led by Elisabeth Cunningham.

Hello. My name is Elisabeth, and I know exactly how daunting the self-publishing process can be. Even with having incredible access to some of the premier writers of our day through the California Writers Club where I am Vice-President, even with all the knowledge I’ve gained interviewing authors, literary agents, librarians, and publishing professionals for the query letter startup I worked for, even after chatting with self-published authors one-on-one and working for an independent publisher as Marketing Director, I was still scared to self-publish my own novel.

But, I did it. And through that process, I learned how to publish a book to the same quality standards as a book published by a major publisher. It was not without many pitfalls. I had some excruciating experiences, due to my lack of knowledge. I missed out on some opportunities I didn’t even know were available to me.

Despite all that, I was still able to manage to publish a novel that is nearly indistinguishable from a traditionally published book. I managed to get a full-page spread in a monthly paper. I managed to get a trade review (a review shared with bookstores, librarians, and others in the publishing trade—something only about 10% of books pitched to that particular trade review get).

These are just a few of the things I want to help you do too, without the painful mistakes that I had to make in order to get there. It’s completely possible. You just need the knowledge, the answers to the questions you might not have known to ask, and it’s yours for the taking.

Join me, and finally make your book visible to the world.
