How to Prototype Addictive Social VR Experiences with Photon Fusion

How to Prototype Addictive Social VR Experiences with Photon Fusion

By XR Bootcamp
Online event

Overview

Learn to create engaging VR worlds with intuitive locomotion and multiplayer.

Discover what makes Social VR unique and why movement is at the center of that magic.

Learn how psychology, locomotion design, and natural interactions shape how players move and connect. See gorilla-style locomotion examples where every grab or collision communicates, and how small design choices impact presence. Explore fast prototyping and the JungleXR Kit for quick, repeatable iteration.

Then, dive into Photon’s Fusion SDK with a live demo showing the setup of an XR project using Meta Building Blocks, integrating Fusion XR add-ons for advanced features, and a quick look at tools like marker-based colocalization.

The Most Important Take-Aways:

  • How to turn physical motion into gameplay that feels good and intuitive, and why solid locomotion design is the backbone of presence in Social VR
  • Practical ways to prototype and test movement systems quickly in Unity
  • How physics, networking, and human behavior connect in multiplayer VR
  • Core networked XR architecture concepts, including a live demo of setting up a Unity scene and advanced Fusion add-ons

Speakers

Photon:

  • Sébastien Poivre is an XR and multiplayer developer working for Photon Engine. He’s always focused on merging a software craftsmanship approach, with a strong attention on user experience. First for end-users, on iOS technologies, and then on immersive technologies. With Photon, this focus turned to the immersive developers’ user experience, by preparing simple tools and samples for Photon’s developer customers, while supporting them in their more advanced requests.

Squido Studio:

  • Sébastien Charron, Tech lead on JungleXR Kit at Squido Studio - Senior Game Developer; Cities Skylines 2, The Office; Somehow we Manage- Senior Software Engineer; Unity: Game Foundation, Game Growth, UGC

About Squido Studio

Squido Studio is a Montreal-based independent video game developer with a strong "gameplay first" mindset. They began their journey developing educational mobile games, reaching over 30 million plays globally, before pivoting to virtual reality.

In 2019 they started experimenting with an innovative locomotion system for VR, built around walking, jumping, and interacting using arm movement instead of traditional VR inputs.

Their first major VR title, No More Rainbows, launched with an inverted good-versus-evil storyline, powered by their unique locomotion system. The success of No More Rainbows established Squido as one of the most creative voices in VR design.

Building on that momentum, the studio expanded its universe with DigiGods, a physics-driven world-building sandbox where players shape and share their own creations, and Grand Thief Animals, a chaotic open-world multiplayer parody.

Squido focuses on values like transparency, innovation, community-driven design, and empowerment, believing that if the core mechanics aren’t fun, you start over.
