Codependency is characterized by a person belonging to a dysfunctional, one-sided relationship where one person relies on the other for meeting nearly all of their emotional and self-esteem needs. It also describes relationships that enable another person to maintain their irresponsible, addictive or underachieving behavior.

Participants will explore aspects of codependent thinking; relationships; dysfunctional roles; boundary issues and healing and recovery.

At the completion of the workshop, participants will be able to :

* Recognize root causes and characteristics of codependency.

* Identify areas of codependent thinking and beliefs

* Understands how certain characteristics arise in codependent relationships.

* Appreciate how addicted, abusive or dysfunctional family systems lead to unhealthy relationships and codependency in adulthood.

* Distinguish between codependent enmeshed boundaries and healthy boundary setting.

* Expand their knowledge of the different recovery tools for co-dependency healing.

New York Social Workers:

Aging Remix is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved Provider of continuing education for licensed Social Workers #SW-0301 .

Social Workers:

The HDRT Group /Aging Remix, Provider # 1445, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program. ASWB Approval Period ( 6/08/19-6/08/22). Social Workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits. Social Workers participating in this course will receive 2.0 (Ethical) continuing education clock hours.

Case Managers:

This program has been pre-approved by the Commission for Case Manager Certification to provide continuing education credit to Certified Care Managers (CCMs). CCMs participating in this course will receive 2.0 continuing education clock hours.

Certificates of course completion will be individually distributed at the end of the workshop, and the submission of workshop evaluation form.

About the Instructors:

Anne B. Pagano, LCSW, ACSW, BCD, C-ASWCM

Anne is the Executive Director of the Hoarding Disorder Resource and Training Group, Inc. She has over 30 years' experience in direct clinical services, supervision, administration and education in hospitals and long term care facilities. She holds a Master's in Social Work from Simmons College of Social Work in Boston and a Post-Master's Certificate in Gerontology from the Hunter-Brookdale Center on Aging in New York City.

Susan F. Cohn, LCSW, MPH

Susan is the Clinical Education Director for the Hoarding Disorder Resource and Training Group, Inc. She is a licensed clinical social worker with a dual master's degree in Social Work and Public Health from Columbia. Susan was the Associate Director for the Jarvie Commonweal Foundation, and has presented at numerous national conferences. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Westchester, NY.
