Find out the secrets to designing a successful fellowship program from scratch from the designers of The HPHR Fellowship.

About this event

Come learn from the pros who have designed and launched an academic fellowship from scratch within less than 2 months. We are in our second fellowship cohort and going strong, with a series of masterclasses, webinars, and trainings for fellows.

We will discuss the following and more:

- Purpose of the fellowship,

- Organizing and managing a team for fellowship design

- Marketing and Promotion

- Education and Social Events for Fellows

- Fellowship Evaluation and Iterative Improvement

Speakers include Co-Editors-in-Chief of the HPHR Journal, Dr. Candice Carpenter and Dr. Circe Gray Le Compte. Together, they lead the HPHR Journal, a 10 year old publication which has 40 columnists and fellows who produce a series of diverse blogs, vlogs, and podcasts. Please see here: www.hphr.org.

SPEAKER 1:

Dr. Candice Carpenter serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of HPHR Journal, co-CEO of The Boston Public Congress of Public Health, Executive Producer of The Great Health Debates, and Editor for the Best of Harvard Public Health Review 2014-2021. She is a physician, entrepreneur, educator, and social justice advocate.

Recently, she was an Equity/Diversity/Inclusion Fellow and a member of the Anti-Racism Committee of the Dean’s Advisory Council for Diversity and Inclusion at Harvard Chan School of Public Health.

From 2017-2019, she was a Fellow for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Leadership Program. She is a graduate of the Oxford’s Women Leadership in Entrepreneurship Programme in 2020, and Oxford’s Social Impact Program in 2019-2020.

She holds an MPH in Public Health Leadership and Health & Social Behavior from the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, an M.B.A. from Oxford University Said Business School, an M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, an Ed.M. in Mind, Brain, Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Psychology from Yale University.

SPEAKER 2:

Dr. Circe J. Gray LeCompte (she/her/hers) has served as editor-in-chief/co-editor-in-chief of HPHR since 2015, and was part of the Journal‘s founding board, as Deputy Editor, in 2014. She also is co-CEO of The Boston Congress of Public Health, which publishes HPHR. In addition to these leadership roles, she is an Executive Producer of of The Great Health Debates and co-Producer of The Humor Scientist with Matt Kazam.

Dr. Le Compte holds Master of Science and Doctor of Science degrees from Harvard University, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she majored in social and behavioral sciences theory/research methods, and racial and sexual/gender minority health. Her independent research inquiries have focused on the use of novel interventions, such as soap operas and PhotoVoice, to improve the health outcomes of medically-underserved populations. For her doctoral dissertation, she used both qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how lived experience frames the conceptualization of health and sexual harm reduction practices of Black/African-American gay and bisexual men and transwomen.

Dr. Le Compte has several decades of communications experience, and previously worked in leadership positions with university-based research centers and national non-profit organizations. While at Harvard, she served as teaching assistant for multiple graduate-level classes, earning a graduation teaching award, in 2020.
