I attended the virtual event, How to Become a UX or Product Designer 2024. This event was hosted by Rachael Page. It was an insightful overview of Design roles.
I appreciated her discussion on how to obtain a design career from the perspective of an industry expert. It was valuable to recall that UX and UI are not interchangeable terms. UX Design focuses on optimizing user interactions and designing experiences (not designing visual assests). On the contrary, UI is designing animation and the visual elements.
As for Product Design is more strategic balancing the user and business needs, goals, and aesthetics. It is a holistic process of creating a product that is complete and user-valued. It is interesting how UX Design and Product Design share the same foundation of user-centered thinking; they are driven by the common goal of delivering products or services that meet the users needs and customer value. However, they differ in scope, emphasis, and desired outcomes.
I had several takeaways. Firstly, I was reminded that UX Design is function focused while Visual & UI Design is experience focused. Secondly, I was glad to note there are several specific potential careers in UX/UI, aside from UX/UI Designers. Some positions are UX Researcher, UX Writer, UX Copywriter, and SEO Copywriter.
My last takeaway is a creative should have a strong foundation in visual design principles. Design principle (typography, color, layout) is consistent and used within the different Design fields. A skilled designer must utilize design principles to put in tasks successfully and communicate their ideas in a concise manner. Thank you again Rachael Page! https:// artfuly.click/be
