Event description
How can we maintain a firm hold on our faith and Christian identity, and also keep from becoming practicing secularists?

About this Event

We spend most of our time swimming in waters that have a powerful ability to form who we are—and which aren’t friendly to our faith. The biggest threats to our faith are rarely direct attacks—often, they’re slow, quiet influences we don’t even notice. As a result, most people who think of themselves as Christians actually think, and live, pretty much like everybody else.

In fact, when secularism is the norm, it’s pretty easy to pick up problems like:

  • Living as if God isn’t present in our lives as we go through our Monday-Saturday existence
  • Thinking that there is no sacred order or way things are to the world
  • Taking life for granted instead of seeing everything as a gift
  • Becoming fragmented, where our thoughts and emotions and desires are pulling us in opposite directions

When secularism is the norm, belief in God becomes more difficult, the felt absence of God more prevalent, and the temptation to fall into idolatry more pressing.

How can we maintain a firm hold on our faith, and our Christian identity, when the norms around us are no longer Christian? How do we keep from becoming practicing secularists? And how can we keep a vision of the future that’s clear-headed rather than just nostalgic?

The Colson Center is pleased to offer our next short course, “How Not to Be a Secularist.” It will take place on four consecutive Tuesday nights beginning October 1. The cost is just $49 for all four webinar programs. This four-week short course will equip Christians to understand the secular world around them, and keep a grasp on their Christian identity even when swimming upstream.

Join The Colson Center’s Warren Cole Smith, along with special guest instructors Paul Gould, Peter Leithart, and Anthony Esolen for a four-part Colson Center online short course.
