Overview
Housing Problem SolvingThis 90-minute, in-person training is designed for case managers and direct service staff working within the Coordinated Entry System in RI who want to strengthen their Housing Problem Solving skills using a Housing First approach. Participants will learn how problem solving supports engagement, diversion, and prevention efforts across the homelessness response system.The training will focus on practical, client-centered strategies to identify housing barriers, explore safe and appropriate housing options, and support participant choice without preconditions. Emphasis will be placed on aligning Housing Problem Solving with Coordinated Entry practices, including progressive engagement, documentation of housing barriers, and collaboration with system partners.Through guided discussion and real-world examples, attendees will gain tools they can immediately apply when conducting problem-solving conversations, supporting referrals, and assisting participants as they move through the Coordinated Entry process.
Participants will learn to:
- Understand the role of Housing Problem Solving within Coordinated Entry and Housing First
- Apply problem-solving strategies during diversion, prevention, and housing navigation activities
- Conduct solution-focused conversations that support participant choice and self-determination
- Identify and document housing barriers and viable housing options consistent with CE practices
This training is intended for case managers and other frontline staff involved in Coordinated Entry, diversion, prevention, and housing placement.
