Overview
HOPPER HAIKU: New Songs Inspired by the Paintings of Edward Hopper
NEW YORK CITY PREMIERE!
HOPPER HAIKU, the new song project by composer/pianist Ellen Mandel and lyricist/baritone Daniel Neer, inspired by the artwork of American realist painter Edward Hopper, embody in music the characters and environments in his iconic paintings. Set to Neer’s haiku, Mandel’s varied musical settings for piano and voice range from lyrical to passionate to jazzy, and express in song the urban isolation and gritty landscape of Hopper’s twentieth century America . Neer and Mandel perform their HOPPER HAIKU songs in its New York City premiere, with projections of Hopper’s paintings serving as their stunning stage set.
