TEACH IN: Preserving Radical Movement History
Speakers: James Tracy & Lynn Lewis
As right-wing efforts to erase or distort historical memory intensify, recording the voices of those who participated in struggles for justice becomes a radical act. Oral History—the practice of collecting historical information through recorded interviews with people who have first-hand knowledge of past events—offers a powerful tool for preserving memory from the ground up. In this interactive session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Oral History and how it can be used to document and preserve the legacy of radical movements. If you can, please bring a cell phone or other recording device.
PERFORMANCE: I Was There Too
Meres-Sia Gabriel
Followed by discussion and Q&A
TEACH IN: The Art of the Black Panther Party
Presenter: Emory Douglas, Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party of Self-Defense
Followed by discussion and Q&A
Emcee: Unique Robinson
