Join experts from Fort Monroe for a hands-on, skill building workshop series, exploring the various ways we study and engage with the past.
2025 - 2026 Theme: Living History
How do we know how people in the past lived? Living history often deepens our understanding of the past through physically embodying those conditions and practicing those skills. Join us to try your hand at butter making, quill pen writing and more!
Workshop 2: Experimental Archaeology
This session we'll try our hand at different historic trades, explore object reproduction and daily life for people at various points in history.
What We'll Do
- Examine primary sources from Fort Monroe’s history
- Practice various historic skills including butter making, quill pen writing, and making corn husk dolls.
- Meet living historians and participate in interactive activities
