Do I have to read at the open mic portion of the event?

Accepted Answer

No! Hill Writers is a different type of writing event in that it exists solely to offer generative inspiring writing experiences. We will engage in a short writing activity, but no one is expected to read what they write unless you want to! We are here to celebrate all first drafts.

What if the zoom link isn't working?

Accepted Answer

Please reach out to hillwriterscollective@gmail.com for support. You may have to download Zoom on your phone or laptop. Click the link again once you've installed the program and it should let you enter. We will not begin the zoom meeting until 5:50 PM.

How can I participate in future events like this?

Join the Hill Writers: A Southern Writers' Collective Facebook group  monthly prompts and  in-person/virtual generative workshop and reading events. IG: @hillwriterscollective

How can I sign up to be a featured reader?

Accepted Answer

Reach out to hillwriterscollective@gmail.com, join the Hill Writers facebook group, or reach out to us through instagram at @hillwriterscollective. We are especially interested in supporting BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, emerging southern authors, and authors with upcoming releases.

Where can I find the Zoom Link?

Check your email (or junk folder) 2 hours before the event. You can also find the Zoom information in the about section above.

Question 6

If I leave the event or get kicked out, can I join again?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You'll be able to join and leave as you please. We'll incorporate a break and the open mic is optional at the end of the event.

Question 7

Do I have to have my camera on?

Accepted Answer

NO requirement to have your camera on or to speak up during the event. We ask that all attendees keep their mics muted throughout the event. We'll have a Q&A with the authors. To keep this organized, we ask that you use the chat for your questions (or the hand raise feature).
