About this event

Join us for an evening of storytelling where the veil between spooky and sincere grows delightfully thin.

“This Will Haunt Me” offers a night of true stories about living to the tell the tale. Our first edition, titled “Here to Tell – True Stories of Fear, Dread and Halloween,” has storytellers sharing real experiences from silly Halloween frights to profound moments of fear and survival.

The first storytelling event is Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Varsity. Admission is $5. Varsity Bar and doors open at 7, and the show starts at 8.

Showrunner and series creator Eric Kophazy is a comedian, artist and storyteller in Southern Illinois. After doing stand up comedy for a decade, Eric took a five-year break and returned with a fresh take: what if the funniest stuff is in the details when a story or idea can breathe? stop trying to be funny so hard to be perfect? This led to the creation of, 'This Will Haunt Me,' a show where people can share their stories – funny, messy, or both – with a focus on connection and humor instead of punchlines.

Stories are better when heard, so why not tell yours?

Whether you have a childhood Halloween tale that still makes you laugh or a moment that changed everything, we want to hear your story. We welcome experienced performers and first-time storytellers. Your story can be funny, serious or somewhere in between, as long as it's true and means something to you. Sign up to perform at the link below or just come listen and be part of this unique night of community storytelling.
