About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

Our stewardship team has been hard at work rehabilitating a section of Mad River in Avening. Join Friends of the Mad River and Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority for a tour of the ecological restoration and then stay to help plant!

The river restoration work was completed this summer, but we need your help to making the project come to life. We will be planting native shrubs and wildflowers along the banks of the new river channel.

Did you know you can grow a shrub from just a stick? Come learn how we propagate native shrubs to help reforest our river banks. Our native dogwood and willow shrubs have the amazing ability to sprout from a cutting, just like many of our house plants. We will be using rubber mallets to plant shrub cuttings into the river bank. We will also be planting native wildflowers. This vegetation will shade the river and enhance habitat.

This project is supported by Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's Outdoor Fund, the province of Ontario’s Great Lakes Local Fund and fundraising by the Friends of the Mad River.

Pre-Registration is required! Space is limited. Please review the Participation Guide & Waiver.
