Heavy Air by Jošt Dolinšek
Overview
Kunsthal Galleri Image presents Heavy Air by Jošt Dolinšek. The exhibition opens Friday 24 October 2025 at 4-6 p.m.
The exhibition Heavy Air revolves around what moves us. The subtle forces that shape us and our surroundings; the dissonant disquiet; the air around and within us — the air we breathe without noticing, the air that carries both life and harm. It is not empty nor neutral.
It contains the weight of what gets neglected: quiet degradation, tremor, slow violence and the elusive, yet consistent change of what we imagined to be stable. Things react, move or shift. Not always with a fracture or a spectacle, but through a persistent tension of what accumulates over time.
The exhibited works were made under that weight. Either in the process or in the physical space, the artist uses sound and vibrations as a force that both co-creates and destabilises the presented photographic installation.
In Heavy Air, Dolinšek will exhibit a constellation of recent and newly produced works. In connection with the exhibition, Galleri Image will publish a booklet with texts by Jošt Dolinšek and Tijana Mišković.
About the artist
Jošt Dolinšek (1997, Ljubljana, SI) is a lens-based visual artist. His practice is predominantly stemming from the photographic medium and is expanded into moving imagery, installation and sculpture. Dolinšek mostly works on long-term projects, exploring the existential experience of environment and time and our relationship towards both. His work is centred on the questions of uncertainty — of perspective, duration, and change. Form and materiality pose as one of the crucial elements of his works, and are often strongly related to the process and the inquiry behind them.
In 2023, he graduated from MFA Photography programme at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg (SE) and in 2020, he earned a BA in Psychology at the University of Ljubljana (SI). Among others, he has exhibited his works at Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (DE), Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana (SI), and Röda Sten Konsthall in Gothenburg (SE). He was also one of the selected artists for Parallel — Photobased Platform and FUTURES Photography, platforms for emerging photographers. Jošt lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden.
On 20 November, 2025 at 2 pm, Galleri Image presents an event with Jošt Dolinšek in conversation with curator Tijana Mišković, PhD.
