Heaven is in Baltimore Part II: Closing Reception
Venue: Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower
Date: December 20, 2025 at 3:00 PM-7:00 PM (Eastern Time)
Heaven is in Baltimore is an art exhibition and cultural project—originally a solo show by artist Mark Anthony West—that invites viewers to see Baltimore itself as a kind of “heaven” by highlighting its spiritual, historical, and human richness through visual art. It’s not a religious sermon, but an immersive artistic meditation on the city’s soul, resilience, and beauty.
🎨 What the Exhibition Is About
- Artistic Vision: The exhibition features paintings and scenes that mix spiritual imagery (Black gods, ancestors, deities) with scenes grounded in Baltimore’s urban landscape, encouraging people to find transcendence in everyday life and overlooked corners of the city.
- Afro-Reverence & Reclamation: West’s work often portrays Black figures in dramatic, powerful contexts, intentionally reclaiming visual histories and celebrating African and diasporic spiritual presence.
- Baltimore as Backdrop: Rather than separating the everyday city from spiritual experience, the show frames Baltimore itself as a place where heavenly and human stories intersect—finding grace in grit.
