Under the guidance of an experienced historical cook and fire handler, you’ll learn authentic techniques for building and managing a cooking fire; handling period utensils; and preparing authentic early American dishes over an open flame.
Together, participants will prepare six authentic recipes drawn from 17th, 18th and early 19th century sources—roasted meat, vegetable dishes, lush green salad, fresh made cheese, decorated cornbread, and apple pie for dessert! Each recipe will showcase the flavors of the 18th century. As the day unfolds, the aroma of roasting, baking, and simmering will fill the restored brick kitchen, leading up to a hearty shared meal .
