Health Systems in Action: Our Role in Gun Violence Response and Prevention
Overview
Gun violence is a crisis in Philadelphia, and gun violence research is critical but underfunded. In late 2023, Accelerate Health Equity awarded four grants to Philadelphia-based health systems as part of its inaugural grants program to support innovative projects focused on the efficacy, outcomes, and scalability of health-system interventions to prevent gun violence. Over $350,000 was awarded to researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Jefferson Health, Penn Medicine, and Temple Health to support four one-year-long intervention programs and research projects ranging from Trauma-Informed Care training to secure firearm storage distribution and intervention in hospital settings.
During the symposium hosted by Accelerate Health Equity and Temple Health, we will hear presentations and a panel discussion from the four AHE Gun Violence Prevention Grants Program grantees on their work and their learnings to help scale successful tactics and programs. The symposium will also include a session highlighting the work of other Philadelphia-based gun violence interventions. The symposium is free to attend, with breakfast and lunch provided.
