Hazmat Operations Refresher - Product Control and Emergency Decontamination

Text: HMOR Option D covers Chapters 9 ( Emergency Decon) and 13 (Product Control) of the IFSTA 6th edition of Hazmatdous Materaisl for First Responders.

Description: Chapters 9 and 13 of the provide essential guidance on decontamination operations and mission-specific competencies for first responders. Chapter 9 focuses on decontamination, covering types and methods, such as emergency, technical, and mass decontamination, along with physical and chemical techniques like absorption, dilution, and neutralization. It also provides best practices for establishing decontamination zones, selecting appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and addressing the needs of ambulatory and non-ambulatory victims. Chapter 13 emphasizes the skills needed for victim rescue and recovery during hazardous materials incidents. It includes strategies for safe rescue in contaminated areas, protocols for recovering deceased individuals respectfully and safely, and guidelines for using PPE and coordinating with other agencies. Together, these chapters prepare responders to manage decontamination processes and perform rescue and recovery operations effectively, aligning with NFPA 470 standards.
