NYC Retrofit Accelerator Building Operations and Maintenance Trainings
LIMITED PROMOTION! If your company/organization has 5 or more participants in the training, you get a FREE INFARED CAMERA extension for smartphones. These are great for detecting water and air leaks and saving money and energy!
Whether you are a New York City building manager, superintendent, or building operator, the NYC Retrofit Accelerator's hands-on building operations and maintenance trainings are available to help you make informed decisions about how to operate your building efficiently, reduce costs, and increase tenant comfort. You will learn how to:
- Diagnose energy and water efficiency challenges in your building
- Implement no- to low-cost energy solutions on your own
- Schedule and prioritize your projects
- Leverage available resources to help finance projects covered in the trainings
You will also be provided with information on resources that can help finance the projects covered in the trainings. Information on programs from utilities, the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and other entities will be available to participants.
Course Offerings
Please note: Registrants must be property managers, superintendents or building maintainers ONLY. Due to limited class size, only 2 staff per building may register for each course.
All classes are taught in an interactive, hands-on format so that building staff can learn by doing. Register for one or more of the following three classes:
Heating and Air Sealing
February 21 and 22 (2 days)
Registration Fee: $50
How to test, repair, install, and troubleshoot a variety of heating-related equipment. Topics include:
- Mechanical and stack effects
- Steam traps and vents
- Thermostatic radiator valves
- Boiler cleaning and tune
- Master venting
- Diagnostic tools (infrared camera, combustion analyzer, temperature dots)
- Air sealing windows, doors, cable holes
- Pipe insulation
Water Conservation and Plumbing
February 28 (1 day)
Registration Fee: $25
How to repair leaks; energy and cost savings associated with water-conserving technologies. Topics include:
- Leaky faucets and toilets
- Leaking valves
- Water-conserving technologies
Energy Efficiency Electrical
March 1 (1 day)
Registration Fee: $25
How to conduct lighting audits, perform basic retrofits, and install control devices; the importance of efficient electrical appliances. Topics include:
- Efficient lighting
- Lighting audit
- Control devices and sensors
- Retrofitting fixtures
- Delamping
- ENERGY STAR® appliances
Requirements
Within four months of the training session:
- All participants agree to undertake at least one efficiency measure (diagnostic and/or repair) for their building.
About the NYC Retrofit Accelerator
The NYC Retrofit Accelerator is a free program provided by the City of New York that offers advisory services to building owners and operators during the steps required to successfully complete water and energy efficiency projects.
