Hügelkultur is a sustainable gardening method that involves creating raised mounds by layering logs, branches, compost, and soil. This technique offers several key benefits: it improves soil fertility as the organic matter decomposes, retains moisture exceptionally well—reducing the need for frequent watering—and enhances drainage, making it ideal for various climates. Additionally, hügelkultur mounds extend the growing season due to the heat generated by decomposition and create a microclimate that supports diverse plant growth. Over time, the mound becomes self-sustaining, making it a low-maintenance and eco-friendly solution for gardeners seeking productivity and resilience.
