Learn various monotype techniques by hand printing on washi (mulberry paper) with Tacoma printmaker, Yoshi Nakagawa. In this 2-session workshop on Tuesdays, June 17 & 24 from 6pm-8pm both days, make painterly prints with acrylic plates using brushes, solvents, and other materials and create different layering effects with one-of-a-kind, multi-colored images. Take these skills to print at home!

Frequently asked questions

What should we bring to the workshop?

All art materials are included in the enrollment fee, but if you have time to prepare before the workshop, please bring a 7"x10" rough sketch or an image you'd like to work with. Also clothes you don't mind getting oil-based ink on.

Where is Write253, Suite 208?

Write253 is a non-profit organization on the second floor of the downtown Tacoma Main Public Library, located with the other community hubs.

What parking is available?

Free parking around the library after 6pm.

What precautions should we know about the process?

Oil-based ink can get messy and please be aware of non-toxic chemical sensitivities or bring a mask with ink, oils, and Simple Green.

Is there a waitlist when the workshop is full?

Yes, if the workshop is full, there'll be an option to be on the waitlist. There are only 6 spots for the two-session workshop. Sometimes there are cancellations weeks before or week of the workshop.

What is the cancellation refund policy?

Refunds up to 5 days before the workshop, Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable. There may be folks on the waitlist who want your spot!

What's included in the $125 enrollment fee?

2 sessions (4 hours) of workshop on June 17 & 24 from 6pm-8pm both days, art materials and taxes. Eventbrite will add their fee onto the $125.

Yoshi is a visual artist in Tacoma, specializing in printmaking since 1999. She pulled her first print at the University of Puget Sound, and continued her craft in Seattle and Oaxaca, Mexico. Her artwork is influenced by patterns of the natural world and Japanese textiles, along with her experiences living in Oaxaca, Japan, and the Pacific Northwest. She has exhibited and taught workshops in the US, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Africa and Honduras.
