Enrolling your child in the Adaptive Aquatics program will help them gain life-saving water safety skills and learn to have fun in the water.
This program is designed for participants with varying conditions being considered. Many individuals can benefit from adaptive aquatics lessons, which are an excellent choice for swimmers with specific conditions. This includes individuals who could make faster progress if they were taught in a way that put them at ease with an adapted approach, considering how they learn best.
Adaptive Aquatics lessons can be helpful for children with the following conditions but not limited to:
- Chromosomal Abnormalities
- Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
GETTING STARTED:
It's important to note that only one registration per participant is allowed for the adaptive aquatics program. Any duplicate registrations will be removed from the system. The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so once the capacity is full, you will need to wait for the next available class.
Registration opens February 24th, Classes begin April 5th. Please note that registration may begin 30 days from registration to allow time to schedule and complete the required assessments. Instructor will advise start date based on enrollment.
Reserve your spot via Eventbrite, bring the reservation ticket to Hadley Pool and other locations to be later determined. Fill out the registration no later than February 28th.
Once you submit the registration, you will be scheduled to meet with the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for a virtual SNAP (Strengths, Needs, Abilities, and Preferences) assessment followed by in person swimming assessment with the Adaptive Aquatics instructor between March 3rd through March 28th . Parents will be notified as soon as possible.
If the participant meets the eligibility criteria, they will be added to the class list.
If the participant does not meet the eligibility criteria, they will be reassigned to a different class to ensure they receive the appropriate level of instruction. Registration for reassignment will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Class will start on Saturday April 5th through Saturday May 24th, 2025. There will be three sessions: 9:00AM, 10:00AM, and 11:00AM. Each registration may chose their time slot.
Once the participant is registered an individualized plan is implemented in the program to ensure each participant reaches their goals. Throughout the lesson, parents will be able to discuss their child’s progress, given at-home activities if applicable, and additional resources to help ensure that water safety is a part of everyday conversation and activity. Based on their progress, the participant may be relocated to another program. To secure a spot registration is required first come first served.
