About this event

Enrolling your child in the Adaptive Aquatics program will help them gain life-saving water safety skills and learn to have fun in the water.

This program is designed for participants with varying conditions being considered. Many individuals can benefit from adaptive aquatics lessons, which are an excellent choice for swimmers with specific conditions. This includes individuals who could make faster progress if they were taught in a way that put them at ease with an adapted approach, considering how they learn best.

Adaptive Aquatics lessons can be helpful for children with the following conditions but not limited to:

  • Angelmans Syndrome
  • Chromosomal Abnormalities
  • Motor incoordination
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Scoliosis
  • Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
  • Speech Delay
  • Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
  • Stroke

GETTING STARTED:

It's important to note that only one registration per participant is allowed for the adaptive aquatics program. Any duplicate registrations will be removed from the system. The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so once the capacity is full, you will need to wait for the next available class.

Registration opens August 11th, and Classes begin August 16th. Please note that registration may begin 7 days from registration to allow time to schedule and complete the required assessments. The instructor will advise the start date based on enrollment.

Reserve your spot via Eventbrite, bring the reservation ticket to Hadley Pool and other locations to be later determined. Fill out the registration no later than August 15th.

Once you submit the registration, you will be scheduled to meet with the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for a virtual SNAP (Strengths, Needs, Abilities, and Preferences) assessment followed by in person swimming assessment with the Adaptive Aquatics instructor between August 11th through August 15th. Parents will be notified as soon as possible.

If the participant meets the eligibility criteria, they will be added to the class list.

If the participant does not meet the eligibility criteria, they will be reassigned to a different class to ensure they receive the appropriate level of instruction. Registration for reassignment will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
