How much does it cost to sign up for a Guided Snowshoe Tour?

Tours are free of charge; however, as a federal fee area, all individuals over the age of 16 require an entrance pass to Cedar Breaks. Entrance passes are $25 per vehicle. Interagency Annual or America the Beautiful passes waive the entry fee of all individuals traveling together in one vehicle.

Where can I purchase an Entrance Pass for Cedar Breaks National Monument?

Cedar Breaks Entrance Passes and Interagency Annual/America the Beautiful passes will be available for purchase at the North View Overlook Visitor Contact Center. This is the same location for which all Guided Snowshoe Tours will begin and depart from.

All Guided Snowshoe Tours will meet and depart from the Visitor Contact Station at North View Overlook. This location does not have an official address, but you can map it using the following coordinates: 37.656968, -112.833944

What if I do not own any snowshoeing gear?

Accepted Answer

Gear will be provided free of charge. All participants of the Guided Snowshoe Tours will be provided with a pair of Snowshoes and ski poles. These will be issued at the start of the Tour and collected at the end.

How difficult are these hikes?

Accepted Answer

This Guided Snowshoe Tour is beginner friendly, but any trail is tough at 10,000 feet. Participants will be hiking a total of 1-mile, round trip, over terrain that features a mix of up- and down-hill inclines. Cedar Breaks is located at 10,000 feet and increases the difficulty level of any hike.

Is there a minimum age requirement for Guided Snowshoe participants?

Accepted Answer

No, there is not a minimum age requirement. However, please be conscientious of your child's endurance and skill level. The tour is designed to be beginner- and family-friendly but may still be considered difficult for some young children. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Dress for cold and wet conditions. It is better to wear more layers that can be shed throughout the hike than to not have enough layers and be uncomfortable for the duration of the Guided Snowshoe Tour. It is also recommended that you wear a water-resistant outer layer, if available.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

Accepted Answer

If available, waterproof and insulated winter boots will be best for snowshoeing. A pair of sturdy waterproof hiking boots will be the next best alternative. If neither is available to you, please wear the sturdiest pair of shoes at hand.

Are there any additional items I should pack?

Accepted Answer

Our rangers recommend packing sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and snacks. Also, if you own an Interagency Annual or America the Beautiful pass, do not forget to bring it along.

I like to be fashionably late. How long will the Rangers wait for me?

Accepted Answer

The Rangers recommend arriving at least 5 minutes before your scheduled tour. This will provide enough time to check in and have your equipment fitted before the start of the tour. Thank you for your cooperation!

What if there is "bad" weather on the forecast?

Accepted Answer

The rangers at Cedar Breaks pride themselves on safety. If there is inclement weather on the forecast, Guided Snowshoe Tours will be canceled and registered participants will be notified via email and phone call.

Will restroom facilities be available?

Accepted Answer

There are no restroom facilities available within the park. The closest restrooms are located outside the park in the town of Brian Head along Hwy 143. Please plan accordingly.
