Join us for a walk down memory lane with Willie Pettway, Jr.

Willie  is the son of the late Lola and Willie Pettway. His mother was a famous Quilter from Gee’s Bend Alabama. Lola Pettway’s work is on display in museums, and she is known for her meticulous creations. Willie grew up on a farm in Gee’s Bend where he assisted his mother Lola, grandmother Allie, and Nell Parker Pettway in the preparation of quilting materials and adjusted support apparatus as required.

Willie will share some of his mother’s quilts as well as slides that will bring his presentation to life. Do not miss this rare opportunity to have a live accounting of life in Gee’s Bend.

Willie enlisted in the US Army in May 1980 and retired in July 1995. He has held management/leadership positions as a Transportation Specialist/Truck Driver and Petroleum Supply Specialist. In addition, he held Mid-level management positions as a Department of the Army Civilian Petroleum Supply Training Specialist. Willie retired in May 2020 after twenty years of honorable service.
