Laurel began her career as a hairstylist at the age of 16 but knew that is was something she wanted to do since a child. It’s not about creating a new cut or color, it’s about that personal connection she has with each one of her guests. After working with traditional salon products and hair color, Laurel developed eczema on her hands from the chemicals and synthetic ingredients, and has also been plagued by migraines that are triggered by chemical based fragrances/perfumes. A further concern with the salon products was harm towards those like her mother, who has lupus and fibromyalgia or her aunt, who was undergoing treatments in 2012-2015 for stage 4 ovarian cancer. Her aunt had asked her to take a look at the ingredients of a natural base hair color that she had purchased. At the time Laurel was not aware of what were considered good ingredients and what were considered bad ingredients. This is where she was on a mission to find safer products for everyone to enjoy. We decided to open the salon of her dreams, Lavender.
Christina has a Bachelor’s in Biology with a Pre-Medicine concentration. Over four years ago, she began having a wide variety of physical symptoms with no answers from her conventional doctors. Upon referral to a physician specializing in Functional Medicine, she was diagnosed with Mold Toxicity and Leaky Gut Syndrome in September 2016 at the age of 25. Due to her journey between traditional and functional medicine, she shifted her career focus and is currently working towards her Master’s in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. She’s hoping to work with those who are dealing with autoimmune conditions to show them how food can help them heal.
Lindsay was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in February 2016, and against three neurologists’ wishes, she turned down treating with medication from the onset. Her gut told her not to. A few months later, after going vegan for moral reasons, Lindsay did some research on her own and found a plethora of information on an MS-specific diet that was not mentioned in any of her doctors’ appointments. She started that diet the next day, and has remained medication-free for over three years. Lindsay’s journey with her own health launched her passionately into wanting helping others in similar situations. She began her social media account, Lindsay Makes Lemonade, to share her journey online. She also became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, with another certification in Nutrition & Wellness Consulting, and specialty certifications in Vegan Sports Nutrition and MS Fitness & Wellness. Her eBook, My New Standard, serves as a quickstart guide to the diets she follows, so that others can embark on their own journeys to better health. Treating her disease holistically has immensely altered her life, and she hopes to help others do the same via her coaching business, Holistic Curative. (Launching this Spring!)
Matthew was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis at the age of 22. After years of clinical dead-ends, struggle, research, and trial and error, he learned of a way of eating that halted his autoimmune symptoms and gave him his life back. He’s eager to share with others the real-world ins and outs of developing a sustainable and satisfying way of eating to avoid symptom triggers and improve healing. Matthew is the Founder of Strict Chef - a website that helps people check foods for compliance with their way of eating, and discover new recipes.
Courtney is an Autoimmune Intuitive Guide, Reiki Master and “Un-Learning Normal” Advocate. She was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in January 2012. Since then, she has been on a journey (both personally and professionally) to find out what it means to live well with an autoimmune disease. As a Certified Reiki Master/Teacher, Courtney loves to help autoimmune disease and chronic illness patients unblock stagnant energy within their bodies that can lead to pain and disease. As a mindset and intuition coach, she also loves helping them work through limiting beliefs, shift their mindset and perspective on living with illness and tap into their own body’s intuition to reconnect with themselves + guide them on a journey towards true, holistic health.
